Select a Primary Care Physician
to Lead Your Medical Team

When you first become a Valley Care IPA patient, it is important that you select a primary care physician (PCP). Go to Meet Our Physicians .

We offer as PCPs the following types of doctors:

  • Internal Medicine specialists (internists) for adults

  • Family Practice specialists for patients of all ages

  • Pediatricians for children from birth to age 18

The PCP you choose will be the doctor who leads your medical team and directs your medical care needs. As you need health care services, your PCP coordinates your health care, maintains your records, gets to know you and your particular health needs, and refers you to other doctors when you need special care. For more information about specialty care, see the Specialty Care Requires a Referral section below.

We also offer female patients of all ages open access to our OB/GYN specialists for routine care. You may choose one affiliated with our medical group or ask your PCP to help you. No referral is needed for routine care.

When you have decided which doctor you want as a PCP for yourself and your family members, you must tell your health plan. Your health plan will give you an identification card that has the telephone number of the site where your PCP's office is located.
